This class was amazing. Professor Maus's class was interesting, fun, and very laid back overall. The course work was fairly simple and repetitive, having two responses due for each week based on readings/content from the week and we had three papers due over the semester. He lets you write about whatever you want for the papers, which was also a big plus. Maus is probably the most understanding professor I've had at UVA and is very chill when it comes to due dates and having additional stress with other classes. He understands that his students have work going on in other classes and is very responsive and empathetic.
In terms of the course content, I feel like it was spread out very well and covered a lot. I picked up on many different perspectives, such as how different genres of music have evolved over time, how society hinders people with disabilities, and certain queer figures that have been influential in the music scene. I 100% recommend this class to anyone that has an interest in music!
