I enjoyed this class a lot! Professor Carter made a point to mention that this class should probably be taken along with Music Theory, and as someone who has never taken a theory class I could not agree more. There's a lot of stuff that he does a pretty good job explaining, but there were many instances where I could sort of tell that I was missing a lot of background. I only mention this because the SIS listing for the class sayings nothing about these two being coreqs, and I would have appreciated that knowledge. As for the class itself, the difficulty increased significantly over the course of the four units. However, if you had perfect attendance, you were permitted to skip the final exam (which probably saved my grade). Professor Carter was generally really helpful - though his explanations of the class concepts didn't always land, he was more than willing to try and find a solution. He was also very generous with extensions and accommodations. The last thing I'll say is that this took wayyyyy more time than any 2-credit class should (especially a class that does not fulfill any gen ed requirements). Be aware of this going in.
