This was a fantastic introduction to basic musical skills. The course load was very fair: with no busy work, I felt like the assignments really maximized my learning. There was one short homework assignment a week that took, on average, 30 minutes; 3 quizzes; and one final exam. There was also a small participation grade, but the grading is very fair in all aspects of the course.

Professor Mueller is a fantastic teacher. He works to provide an open, inclusive, and positive learning environment and is very accommodating. I really enjoyed taking this course, especially when my semester was otherwise very difficult.

Justin is seriously the man. He is probably the kindest prof I have encountered so far at uva, and was especially accommodating with the pandemic and all. Homework assignments were very easy as long as you read the textbook or listened to the lecture and he was very flexible with OH if you needed help. exams were really simple and timed 75min, but if you know your stuff it probably will take no more than 30-45 min. The final exam was 3 hours but i finished it in 1. I actually almost took this class with Benjamin Rous and i am so glad i didnt, because i felt like many students in his class complained that the material definitely wasn't for beginners, but Justin truly broke it down for us and helped both newbies and those who have had some musical experience. please take this class w him! #tCFspring2021

This was a really fun class! sometimes the homework was tricky but a quick look at the textbook and it would be easy to figure out. Prof Mueller is also a really good guy who will understand your circumstances and help you out if you ask. Seemed like he truly enjoyed teaching

Great way to complete the fine arts aspect of the humanities requirement. The class was pretty easy plus I actually learned a lot. If you have any music experience, it will be an absolute breeze until the last unit or so where you will have to focus up a bit. If you don't have experience, I wouldn't be worried either because the lectures are detailed and the textbook is easy to read. It was a great class to pair with harder classes and Prof. Mueller was very kind and lenient.

I loved this class. Great way to fulfill the fine art requirement. It was a very easy A. There are 10 homework assignments that take around 20-30 minutes to complete. This class is especially easy for anyone that has any musical experience. The tests are all very easy and straightforward. I highly recommend.

Awesome class. I learned a ton. It covers basic music theory such as reading music and scale construction. Workload is light and tests are based very closely on the homework (which took 30 min tops to complete). Justin knows his stuff and presents the material very clearly. Definitely recommend this class if you need to fill the Fine Arts area requirement!
