This was my least favorite class this semester. There's a ton of reading, although there's virtually no other outside work (except for one paper). However, professor Schmidt does a poor job of tying the readings to her lectures. She's very hard to follow in lecture. She jumps from topic to topic and doesn't ever really make her points clear. She provides a decent study guide for the midterm/exam although the actual test has a fraction of the material from the study guide, so you study for a lot more than she tests you on. Her grading is extremely picky for the exams. She counts attendance for lecture, but it's so boring I skipped a lot of them. I was disappointed because this class definitely has the potential to be interesting and open your eyes to other cultures and their practices, but I feel that professor Schmidt handled the class very poorly overall. I wouldn't recommend this class for any reason - take something else if you're looking for a non-western credit.
