I was a bit worried going into this class because my friends took MSE 2090 with other professors and struggled. However Professor Ma's class was one of the most memorable courses I took at UVA. His lectures are thorough and really explains the material instead of just reading off the slides. His exams and homework assignments are definitely unique and always have some quirky backstories to each question. Overall I found the course pretty easy despite the workload because as long as you understand the lectures, you can figure out the assignments easily. Professor Ma was also really understanding throughout the semester (w COVID and everything) and even posted answer keys for our final HW's so we can study more for our exams/finals. He also provides so many bonus points for each HW, exam, and a photography contest at the end too. Overall super interesting course material that I would highly recommend!

Ji is a pretty cool professor. His slides aren't that useful when studying and the test questions are extremely open-ended, but his homework questions all come with wacky stories behind them. In short, take his class. You won't regret it.
