Tom is such a great guy! Basic Real Analysis is notorious for being one of the hardest classes required of math/stat majors, but I think that Tom did a pretty good job of explaining these abstract and complicated topics. He's quirky and has a good sense of humor, which made him very approachable. The final grade is made up of mostly your homework grade (40%), then 2 midterms (15% each), a final exam (20%) and weekly definitions quizzes (10%). The midterms contained a few definitions, T/F questions (with justification) and 2 proofs that were done previously done in class. He typically hinted at the proofs that would appear on the midterms which meant if you studied/memorized those proofs, you had a good chance on being successful on those questions. The final exam contains an open-note, take home portion of 3-4 proofs, which is due on the day of the scheduled final, and a sit-down portion which has a similar format to the midterms, just a bit longer. Overall, Tom made this difficult class bearable and I would recommend taking this course with him if it is required for your major.
