Explains everything on the board and writes out everything he says. Makes it so you don't really have to pay attention in class. Don't speak unless you know the correct answer.

Professor Pereira is a really great guy who knows his math. The work load isn't that bad, considering the homework can be found on Chegg and the lectures are entirely posted on Collab. The tests are challenging but practice exams are given with solutions about a week in advance. I would recommend this class.

This was one of the worst classes I took at UVA. People either completely failed tests (as in 30%) or got A's on the test. Pereira's lectures are dry and he talks a lot about theory even though he doesn't test us on that. I went in to talk to him about a poor test score, and what I need to improve and he completely shut me down, telling me I was stupid and I should withdraw from the class. DO NOT take probability with this professor. There are plenty of other great math professors out there who can teach probability way better

Mr. Pereira is certainly an oddball. He has a strange sense of humor, and shuts down anyone who asks stupid questions. He also has a Master Sword replica from the Legend of Zelda in his office. That said, he is probably one of the smartest instructors at UVA--and I don't say that lightly. For this class, he followed the textbook very closely, which made reading it more useful. He generally explained the concepts of probability well, although sometimes he couldn't quite articulate his thoughts. Before each test, he would post a practice exam on Collab which resembled the actual exam closely. The first three exams were fairly straightforward. The final exam, however, was more difficult than anyone expected. On the bright side, he had no time limit. besides needing to get dinner at some point. Overall, he is a pretty good professor that some people will appreciate, and some people won't.
