This Professor was a complete joke. Lectures were hard to understand because he would go off in tangents. Asked for help on homework, but couldn't even HELP! Worst Professor at UVA by far. Please UVA fire him.

This class was impossible. His lectures are super confusing and boring. The homework takes forever to do. 10/10 would NOT recommend.

The professor is extremely hard to follow in lecture. You end up learning almost nothing with a harder time at getting an A. Take Petrov lol

Lectures were entirely proofs, almost never an example all semester. TA, however, was more excellent. I always would look forward to my Calculus Word of the Day.

Herbst was one of the worst professors I've had in the Math department. Class is fair, but his lectures can be difficult to determine what he really wants you to take out of the class. Be prepared to study the textbooks and any example problems very closely.

Herbst is one of the most terrible lectures i have endured while at UVa. the types of problems assigned for homework do not correlate with those on the test.

Midterms and final are not difficult. Easy class.

Herbst is very intelligent, he clearly understands the subject, however--he assumes you do, too. There were many times that he would start difficult problems then just go "...clearly, [answer]" because it was clear to only him. The tests were very difficult, 5 or so questions in total.

This is a fantastic math class. At the beginning of the semester it seemed tough, but weekly quizzes come straight from the practice problems and once you figure that out it's not bad at all. If you do them ahead of time you'll be set. Homework can be tough, but get it done before discussion so you can ask questions or just go to the TA's office hours for help. The averages on the tests were pretty bad, but the tests themselves were surprisingly easy. The test questions were a lot like the practice problems and basically just tested your understanding and ability to apply fundamental concepts. Also, he keeps the lectures interesting by using applications in physics.

This class was a lot of fun and Herbst is an awesome professor. If I could take it again, I would.

The class is really simple. I stopped going to class as all that is required is to read the book and your golden.

Though the class / homework is easy the midterms seem to be brutal. There are 5 questions on each, and for having 2 of them the averages were 68%/82% (he allowed a retake), and 68%. No curve.
