Professor Pereira is a really great guy. If you go to his office hours, you'll find that he cares a lot if you understood the material. But this is not an easy A class, so be prepared to put in work - which is expected of you.

He wasn't a bad teacher. He did his best to cover the large range of topics. Should probably take a calculus course prior to signing up for this class otherwise you might get a little lost.

Just don't take 1310 with Luis.

Luis Pereira is one of the worst teachers I've ever had. He is definitely in his own world when he teaches, as he dismisses students as if they are a liability rather than his students. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM. Our class average was almost 10% worse than the rest of the sections combined...THAT Is not a problem with the students, it is a problem with the teacher. HE is incoherent and most definitely incomprehensible. If it wasn't mid- November, I would withdraw...and if I could withdraw from this class I would. In all honesty, he's the worst Calc professor. I have gone to higher level math courses in my previous years, but he makes material so difficult to understand (material that I already know!). Thus, don't take Calc I with him, because there are far better professors out there that are willing to help his students. His accent and the speed with which he teaches classes makes it 100 times harder than it needs to be. HE's erratic, walking around during our exam, thinking and making huge hand gestures...it's distracting and unnecessary.
