Dr. Faruqe is nice but not the most engaging instructor. After the first week people quickly realized this was a class they could do work for other classes in, and as a result, class participation became virtually non-existent. This class is a very easy A and requires minimal work, but if you're looking for a class that will really engage you and change your perspective, this isn't it. Additionally, Dr. Faruqe's instructions were often unclear and the assignments were unorganized and often mislabeled. She's a nice person overall but clearly doesn't know what to do when students don't participate and was unable to get people engaged in the content towards the latter half of the semester. But as long as you come to class you'll do fine.
Not a big fan of the way the class is structured. Every day, we come in after reading some article and then have like 3 kids present on the article we read, taking up like 30 minutes of the class. Then, she introduces another topic during the class period and we talk about that in groups for like 30 minutes and then have a discussion. This class is really just a lot of talking with your peers and understanding different perspectives, so I'm not sure how much I learned from talking to the same people every other day about very similar topics every day. The professor is pretty chill in terms of grading though, so from a student perspective, the class was fine. Except sometimes, the professor was pretty disorganized and had details mixed up, which confused the class a lot; however, since she was chill about everything for the most part, everything was okay in the end for my grade. Just expect a lot of talking and repetition in this class.
