Basically, we read a book every week or 2 weeks.
Only 3 papers, 2 6-paged papers and 1 10-paged paper at the end en lieu of a final.
The class is all discussion so be ready to talk for 2.5 hours!

This is an interesting class, and Braun is clearly very knowledgeable about the subject, but it as a seminar class it is tedious. The 2 1/2 hours drag on and Braun gets lost in his own thoughts. On top of this there is so much reading, be prepared to be reading a book a week and a writing a paper every couple of weeks. There is no midterm or final, but enough work over the semester to keep you busy!
Bottom line is if you are interested in the subject and are prepared to read and write a lot then take this class. If heavy reading is not your thing, give this one a miss.
Very liberal professor, nice guy though.
Make no mistake - this class is difficult and it's a lot of work for a 100-level (1 full book or paper every week). But if you're willing to put in the effort, it's an incredible class. Tico is dynamic, original, and full of questions that really get you thinking. I learned more from this class than from any other class first year.
A book or a paper a week. Some of the books are long, Professor Braun makes it worth it though. He is funny, smart, provocative and caring. He will make you a better writer.
Tico is hilarious in class, and a really engaging person. He may be a little intimidating at first, ditto the workload...but in the end, neither one is too bad.
It is a lot of reading (a book a week) but the teacher is amazing, he has a really good relationship with the students. So it is work but the teacher makes it worth it. And if you are interestd in the Latin American clulture then its really inteesting. Its a nice break from text book reading.
Awesome teacher but a lot of reading
