Prof. Hitchcock is great. He is a really good lecturer who keeps students engaged and interested in the material. You deal with some really heavy stuff in this class, but he makes it accessible and has good slides/lectures. This is my favorite class this semeseter because of the professor and the class is just really interesting. There is reading each week but no tests, just 5 essays that make up the grade but they're 1200 words each and the prompts come out a little over a week in advance so not bad.
Super interesting & easy class. Class is structured as 5 papers each worth 20 points, totaling 100 points. Each paper is graded either 20,15,10, or 0. Each paper around 1250 words. Other than that there are readings which are important for the papers but not too challenging or time consuming. Professor Hitchcock is my favorite professor at UVA and would recommend his classes to anyone. Take this class!
This was a great course! The class was extremely easy as there was no homework or exams, yet I still learned a lot. Basically, over the course of the semester, there are four 25 point essays which end up making your entire 100 point grade. There are about 5-6 readings over the course of the semester, each a short novel or memoir, which are the topic of these essays. Professor Hitchcock was an extremely laidback and understanding teacher and the class overall was very enjoyable. I highly recommend this course for anybody who is interested in learning more about Europe during World War II yet also wants an easy A.
