Dr. Kate was an excellent instructor and really opened my eyes to writing centers and their importance. As someone who is not an English major, this class was a little challenging at first and required some strength of my own to step out of my comfort zone. The class is graded mainly on participation, discussion boards, and a final paper. There is lots of reading each week and a pop quiz every now and then so that she can make sure you are actually reading the material. The final paper is very long (around 20ish pages), but she grades it very fairly and it was the best score I had in the class all year actually. There is also a required volunteer part, where you can choose from a few different organizations to practice tutoring. This class is a requirement to become a tutor in the writing center. Attendance is very important so make sure to show up for class and participate in the discussions on the readings, that's all class really is. You will get very close with the people in class.
