This is quite possibly the most interesting class I've taken at UVA so far! In this course you will learn about some greek mythology for contextualization but mainly about the rituals performed in response to those myths. There are only 2 classes a week with Monday being informal discussion about the readings (which are at least 20ish pages but you only need to skim them) with some questions and Wednesday being solely lecture. Andrej is a very lively and engaging professor but speaks quickly so it can be difficult to write everything down but he provides "study sheets" with all the vocab and main learning objectives you need to know. The only things making up your grade are participation, (maybe 1 quiz?), 1 midterm, and the final. All the exams are structured with having a vocab section, an ID section (important pictures from lecture), and short answer/essay section. There aren't any other assignments besides the readings so its a very doable and easy going class!

I'm currently loving this class, the other reviews are right. I came here specifically to say that the prof tells you that you have to print out the readings for every class and bring them but you 100% don't have to. He has never once looked for our printed readings and he allows us to have our laptops open. I have no idea why he says that.

This class was super interesting and would definitely recommend it! The professor is funny, welcoming, and easy-going, deadlines aren’t super harsh. For tests, he usually gave a time window of 24 hours to complete the exams, which were easy as long as you studied the material! Definitely a lot of terms, but quizlet is a good study source for that. Also, the material itself was interesting and never dull!! 100% recommend this class even if it’s not your area of study.

Professor Petrovic is provably the most accommodating professor I have had at UVA, especially during COVID. He clearly cares about his students and the material SO much. Additionally, the class is extremely straightforward and not challenging coming from a STEM major who is not a particularly gifted reader or writer. As long as you go to class and take notes you will be perfectly fine. The tests are based off of vocabulary terms gone over in class and you don't really need the readings for anything besides class discussion. But even then, if you skim them you should be perfectly fine. Can't recommend this course and Professor Petrovic enough! You will learn a lot and have fun doing it in an easygoing, low-stress environment.
