This class is so, so amazing. Professor Roorbach cares so much about every single one of her students and shows it in every class period. The readings are a little dense, but you can typically read just the abstract and findings for the super-technical papers and understand everything. This class changed the way I understand politics and policy and will impact probably every class I ever take. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Our main assignments were weekly reading reactions, 5 quizzes, an issue statement, a policy proposal, and participation. Class was doable (I got an A!) but frustrating at times. Professor won't answer your emails (and is honest about that). It's only midly annoying when you see her in class weekly but after finals were over and the grader marked something wrong, she would NOT ANSWER. I still ended up with an A, but if it was a border grade that would have been extremely detrimental. Grader was also mid and would not answer emails either. In class was good, and outside was a mess. The first quiz was weirdly hard but they got a bit easier and some were group quizzes. The issue statement and policy proposal weren't graded too harshly but that may just be the grader because I'm certain he did not read my whole paper from the things he marked off. Like he said I didn't mention a policy which I explicitly referenced THREE times. But hopefully it will be better for y'all. If you need an A and have some time to spend on this class, you can get it.
