If you are thinking about taking this class DO NOT. Not only is Professor Korinek one of the worst professors I've met in the Econ department, but his grading scale is completely subjective. The class consists of weekly readings and class discussions (no lectures). The entire course is basically graded on subjective participation relative to other classmates, so even if you participate in every class but others participate more, you WILL NOT get an A. Additionally, the midterm exams have little relation to the course content and Korinek provides no insight into what will be on the exam (remember there are no lectures in class). The average for these midterms was about 70%. Furthermore, Korinek is a PHONY who thinks he knows a lot about AI. He consistently brags about how he uses AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) to write the research papers he publishes. Furthermore, he often goes on tangents about nonsense, not allowing students to participate. Overall, this is THE WORST econ elective you can take. Whatever you do, avoid this class and Korinek at all costs!
