Professor Feitosa is excellent and values the students learning the language above all else. She is very lenient and is willing to work with you as long as your show an interest in Portuguese. Her enthusiasm is infectious and makes the material very enjoyable. If you know Spanish, I recommend taking this class and becoming trilingual. Its not the exact same as Spanish but there are enough similarities to give you a good head start. The class also delved into Brazilian and Portuguese culture which was very interesting. Most of the work for the class was in the form of packets and free response worksheets, which were not the most fun, but they were effective at making you practice and learn. Showing up to class was always fun because discussion with classmates was a priority and I always enjoyed talking to my partner. The class isn't easy but it's not the hardest either, and the work is definitely worth it.

Professora Lilian is lovely and clearly really cares about us and teaching Portuguese. She is the most flexible professor I have ever had, and really works with students to make sure we all succeed. There is a ton of homework but it helps you to learn the language. If you want to learn Portuguese, take this class!

This class was probably my favorite this semester. Before taking this class it is expected that you know a good amount of Spanish, as the pace at which we learned new vocabulary and grammar was very quick, so having a good base in Spanish really helps since it is similar to Portuguese. This also means that you get to learn a lot and reach a decent level of Portuguese just from taking this class. There was regular work outside of class, made up mostly of the homework and the textbook readings before each class. The textbook was helpful and most of the class speaking activities were based on sections from the textbook. It is not very hard to get a good grade in this class, but if you fall behind on the work then you might have trouble doing that since it is a lot of work to keep up with. It was pretty low stress in general. You also get to learn a good bit about Brazilian culture that is integrated into learning the grammar and vocabulary so if you are also interested in that then I would recommend this class. If it were a normal semester, the professor would have made traditional Brazilian food for us when learning about food which I am sad to have missed out on. Overall a fun class and a great professor even with the difficulties of online learning.

Fun! New textbook that compares Spanish and Portuguese
Daily reading- vocab and grammar
"Tarefas" that go along with each chapter- Excellent to use to study, but Prof never gave answers for them, so you don't know if you got the right answer
Overall, not a lot of feedback given, so it was difficult to know where you were
4 compositions on ePotfolios
4 Tests, usually a final project
Reading Questions for every chapter that include a listening portion-
DO NOT PROCRASTINATE- this class isn't hard but it is a lot of work. The majority of my time was spent doing stuff for this class
This semester the Prof was waaayyy behind- we didn't usually get access to our tests until a month after the chapter ends, but that should be solved bc she has the tests online now.
Prof is definitely willing to work with you- she is so excited to share Portuguese with you, but the pandemic has limited her ability to do this. Please be kind, she's very understanding.
