I really liked this course. Professor Syed is a very kind and interesting professor who is highly invested in your success. The course focuses on the Slave Trade from an African lens, and it was very approachable even for someone who had rarely studied African history in the past. He attempts to make your grades as diverse as possible, which meant that there were a number of different assignments to complete like short reading responses, in-class exams, two longer reading responses to books (both were under 150 pages), and a final project on the Transatlantic Slave Trade Database. Everything was graded fairly and he was very generous in giving you as many points as possible. He even provided study guides before each exam with themes from the course and all of the possible vocabulary you could be tested on. I would recommend this course to anyone, whether it is an area you commonly study, or if you just need it for a requirement.
