Easily my favorite teacher and class at UVA! Cristina is incredibly kind and down to earth. Her class is not only deeply interesting, but also helpful for relearning how to write a paper. There are only two required papers for this class, and you can rewrite your first one if you're not satisfied with your score. We mostly focused on argumentative/analysis writing, but there was also the option to do a comparative paper. There is also a research project for this class, but Cristina walks you through every part of it and makes sure you know what you're doing. This is a great class if you want a refresher course on writing a good essay, and an intro on how to do research. The books for this class were incredibly interesting as well. There's not much homework besides reading (which is super well paced and not rushed), only a communal writing journal where you put your thoughts about the book onto paper (no required word count). Classes mostly consist of discussing gothic tropes and the books/stories we are reading. This is a fun, engaging, and easy course. An A is almost guaranteed if you put in the work. I 100% recommend!
