Professor Slodounik is an amazing professor. I had her for both of the 1010 and 1020 classes and learned a lot. She tries to talk entirely in German, which was confusing a few times, but if people don't seem to understand she readily explains in English. Homework is very simple, just a few minutes of reading and workbook exercises per night, graded on completion. One or two very short (no more than a page) essays per semester. Tests can be difficult, because she really tests to make sure you know all the material, but if you do the homework and the study sheets she hands out, and even just make an honest studying effort the night before, it's not hard to get an A-. Definitely recommend her if you want to learn German or even just get the language requirement out of the way!

Frau Slodounik is probably one of the best Graduate Students I've ever had as a teacher. She has the rare talent of making a language class interesting, engaging, and fun. The readings include German articles about current events and she organizes group work in class with other students. The tests are somewhat difficult, but they are nothing you can't study for. She is very helpful and always asking if you need help. I cannot recommend this teacher any higher. If you have the opportunity to take a class with her, I heavily insist on taking German with her.
