Professor Handler will absolutely rock your academic world. He is incredible knowledgeable and has a way of shattering all of your normative world assumptions (about race, nationalism, international development, volunteerism abroad, American individualism, even the concept of time, among many other things) that will absolutely revolutionize the way you think. He's BY FAR the most worthwhile professor I've had at UVA. You can say he's pretty radical, but once you learn his thoughts you realize that it's really just that the rest of us are so NON-radical & need for our notions of accepted reality to be shaken up. He presents his ideas clearly and welcomes you to question them. Plus, he paces while he teaches, wears funny flat-brim hats, and is very accessible to meet outside of class. I recommend everyone be taught by Handler before leaving U.Va.

Loved the insights Handler gave us on social-construction of the world. I learned to think in such a different way. His left-wing views often surfaced (loved them) and tangents are highly entertaining. Fair exams.
