Prof. Franks is great and very knowledgable about the subject. Having worked both in the private sector and now has a professor, he has extensive knowledge of the American tax system. Saying that, the nature of the content makes this course tough. There are so many rules and exceptions to apply in the US tax system that makes everything complex. You do get cheat sheets for the exams and i would suggest writing those rules down, instead of memorizing them. However, there is a disconnect between the simple examples done in class compared to homework/exam questions. All-in-all, Prof. Franks is great and the exams do require a decent about of preparation. #tCFF24
Some students dropped the course during the first week because they felt his teaching style didn’t suit them. As the semester went on, I often wished I had done the same. His storytelling approach made it difficult to understand what was important for the exams, especially in a tax course, where clarity and a focus on specific rules and applications are essential. I would recommend considering whether his teaching style aligns with your learning needs.
