This class was pretty awesome. The STS program could take a few lessons of its own from Prof. Slutzky's course. Prof. Slutzky has a lot of real-world experience, but unlike many lectures isn't very stuck up about it. Prof. Slutzky started a few businesses related to environmentalism, worked for the EPA, and served as an advisor for the Clinton administration. He listens to class feedback a lot. The whole course is structured around a handful of case studies (about 5 to 7 of them). The only outside work you will have to do for this class is prepare for 3 or 4 quick (1-2 minute) presentations on topics from class and write the same number of medium-length (5-7) papers. Half of the semester all you have to do is show up to class and listen to lecture and ask questions. Keep in mind that class participation will impact your grade a fair amount since there are very few assignments (and no midterms or finals outside of the papers!). The STS program sucks, but this class is an outlier.

Slutsky is the best STS professor out there. He's extremely passionate about his work and has invaluable experience that he passes down to you. He really tries to engage the class in discussion and loves when students challenge him. His views are different from any you may have heard before, but that's part of the fun. I hate STS, don't get me wrong, but Slutzky makes this class fun. Take this STS class! I promise you won't be dissapointed.
