I have taken now 3 courses from Dr. Clabough, who is wonderfully knowledgeable. I enjoyed my previous two courses with her, but she seems to have suddenly changed her teaching style. This course often had objectives for the next class, and the homework and subjects of required papers, changed last minute. She would rave about the flexibility this course offered, but it was rather frustrating as a student to be told to prepare to research one topic, and then be told that approach had been thrown out the window as she drove to class that morning.
The 5 scientific papers we produced required we do our own stats and image analysis--one time, we had to compile data from over 100 pages of materials. I think you, reader, are getting the picture. Often while doing background reading on research, we students would find that what we tested had been disproven several times by other scientists. These papers would have a timeframe of 2-3 weeks, where we would do the research and then write up the paper and analysis within the next two weeks. This rapid fire research seemed sketchy at times, as we wouldn't know what we were doing.
This course, while good for giving research experience, is too haphazard and rushed to be completely effective.
