Mathieu Perrot is such a great professor! He is very engaging and makes sure you understand what he has taught you. He is very relaxed and isn't too harsh of a grader. If you can take a class with him I would highly recommend it.

Perrot is really funny and really cares about his students. He's probably the easiest 1020 teacher because he doesn't care about due dates. Supersite assignments had no deadline and he didn't mind if you came to class a little late. He's super flexible and just wants his students to do well. However, if you need a lot of structure and due dates in order to stay on top of assignments, this might not be the teacher for you because he lets you decide when to do most assignments. Overall, he was a great intro french teacher

Perrot is a FANTASTIC teacher! I really enjoyed going to his class every day last year (had him M-F for 50 minutes). He is a very lenient grader and works with students for fair homework policies. He walks through grammar points in a clear manner and helps us with pronunciation by encouraging us to participate every class. Tests and exams are hard, but with proper studying and class participation you'll be ok. Took two years of French in high school, then stopped after sophomore year. The curriculum was a great refresher course, and after taking both it and 2010, I feel like I could have taken 2010 if I had to and done just fine. French 1020 is a good beginning French course if you've had any experience at all with the language, and try to get Perrot if you can!

I loved this course. Foreign Languages at UVa are in no way easy but Mathieu made it fun and wanted the students to do well. I was right on the line with a B+/A- at the end of the semester. I went to class and studied a decent amount. French is a class that's easy to fall behind in but Mathieu makes time to see his students and explain the material outside of class if someone is struggling. I definitely recommend him whether you're good with foreign languages or not.

One of the best professors I've had at UVA thus far. Genuinely wants his students to do well and course work is beyond manageable. I would highly recommend!

He is a great professor and really tries hard to connect with his students! I struggled this semester but he would work with me as much as possible. He always took his students into consideration when it came to any assignment. he was completely fair in grading. He made the class interesting! Didn't ever feel stressed out about the class and that was his goal!
