I took this class with Hannah and Nouha Gamar. First of all, if you took a language in high school but didn't place out here, there are probably easier departments to start off in. I got a B and put in more effort than I have in any class ever. I'm also not continuing on in French. Basically it's just a lot of work. However, I did learn a lot of French! I went from no knowledge to conversational in a semester, and I think that's pretty remarkable. There were 7 tests and then the final (all short answer/fill in the blank). Everything slightly wrong (accents, slight misspellings) counted off, and those add up. There was also daily homework on the supersite, which tended to be unnecessarily long and took forever to do. There were 3 compositions and participation also counted towards your grade. Also, if you're struggling TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE CULTURAL OPPORTUNITIES. If you go to French House events and email your teacher with a short paragraph describing what you did, you get one point on each test for a total of up to 5 points on each test. They do dinner Monday-Thursday at 6 for a meal swipe, a movie at 7 on Wednesday and Pause Café Thursdays at 3. These activities absolutely saved my grade in this class.
