To be honest, I think this has been my favorite class I’ve taken at UVA. Goedde is an amazing lecturer, and you can tell he has a deep passion for what he is talking about. I found it extremely easy to pay attention, and honestly every lecture was very interesting. One thing though is that he doesn’t post useful slides, so it’s very essential to go to every lecture. The first two tests do require a fair bit of memorization, as you have to ID paintings, but there is no HW, so I found it fair. The other questions he asks on the tests aren’t surprising and addressed in lecture. I’d highly recommend this for anyone who has an interest in the topic, as in my opinion you really do learn a ton in this class, and it’s really opened my curiosity for art.

This was a great class. The main section was online asynchronous due to COVID with two 50 minute recorded lectures a week. This is a great class for anyone who is interested in Art History and wants a good overview without it being too difficult. Dr. Goedde was an interesting lecturer and discussion sections were helpful for practicing analytical skills. Dr. Goedde is very caring and always responded to emails quickly. The exam questions are short answer/essay and pretty easy as long as you study the lectures. The exam questions are based on the lecture information more than the textbook (I think I read from the textbook once or twice and still did well on exams). #tCF2020
