Kelly is funny and nice, but due to the class content, it was very difficult (for me at least) to stay engaged with his lectures. Listening to information about steel and aluminum is all you do in this class. I took this because I thought it would be an easy A, but I did have to put in work to get an A. The course is also dual enrollment with MSE students, so Kelly tailored it to be engineering heavy, or at least expecting a background knowledge of chemistry or physics.

On paper, this class didn't sound very interesting to me at first - I figured that I would take it to cover some requirements. However, after the first few lectures I had completely changed my mind. Professor Kelly is an engaging lecturer who clearly cares a lot about what he teaches. Make sure you read the textbook - a lot of questions in the reading quizzes and exams were not mentioned in the lecture. Overall, great course from a great professor.

Professor Kelly is a great professor who was very engaging in lecture, and spent a lot of time covering topics which the class felt were confusing which I really appreciated. However, the material was often pretty boring, which made it hard to pay attention during lecture. The weekly quizzes were fairly easy, especially if you read the reading for the week. HOWEVER, the tests were very hard, even while they were open note. Overall, if you are just trying to fulfill your science requirements, there are easier and more interesting classes you can take to do so.

Amazing class because of the amazing professor. Kelly is SO passionate about what he teaches and created a great classroom atmosphere. We would have open note weekly reading quizzes that were super easy (get the online pdf so you can just control F the words) and exams were also online open note open book. Exams were a little tricky but not bad and he would give points back. Lectures were taped so you didn't have to go but I would suggest going just because he was so entertaining. Boring material but he really made that class worthwhile!

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Do not be deceived into thinking it is an easier science class like me. It definitely could have been interesting and fun (like past reviews), but this semester it was so hard and the test questions were so specific!!!! Even though I went to every single class and studied a lot it was very difficult.

This class was not a lot of work except for the actual tests. I took this class after reading the reviews for the Spring 2018 and 2017 and something must have changed because these exams were HARD. They seemed irrelevant and although they were open book and open note, the questions were phrased oddly. The curve for the class was nonexistent even when he promised it and instead of changing each exam to fit a curve he just changed the final grade. He kept changing how our grade would be calculated which was very annoying and was unclear about how to do better. Although he was entertaining, this class is not an easy A because something must have changed.

This course is extremely challenging, not because of the content, but because of how boring it is. The lectures and content itself are incredibly dull. The textbook is written very weirdly and can be confusing to understand. Also, the reading quizzes are close to impossible and the tests are equally as hard and unfair. I took this class because I am a non-science major who is looking to get the requirement out of the way. At first, I put work into the class and would pay attention during lecture and read the textbook, but after I realized that this wouldn't help me on the reading quizzes and tests I stopped doing so. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS CLASS, seriously rethink taking this course if you are looking for a science requirement it is just too boring and unnecessarily difficult.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! It was supposed to be an easy A to fulfill a science requirement for a non-science student and it ended up being my worst class of the semester. All of the lectures are a drag, the reading quizzes are so tricky, and despite it being open note exams, they are extremely difficult. DO. NOT. TAKE.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ARE A NON STEM MAJOR LOOKING FOR AN EASY CLASS. The exams and quizzes are the hardest and most unfair I have ever taken. Not worth it.

Kelly is the nicest dude in the world, but this class is so hard. While there is minimal work on an every day basis, the tests and quizzes are impossibly hard. I took this class because everyone said it was an easy course, but it ended up being my hardest class all semester.
