Professor Boyce is what makes this class great. Otherwise, it would be extremely boring. The readings are very dense and long (about 100 pages a week, sometimes more). Professor Boyce explains the main points really well though and is so funny! He plays music before class starts and made us send him our favorite songs for a class playlist. He keeps lectures interesting with random funny pop culture references and self-effacing jokes. You really understand the scholarly readings more after his weekly lecture. After the first lecture of the week, you have to write a 200-word discussion post on Collab about the reading, and two times throughout the semester, you instead have to write a 500-word review. The second lecture of the week is a discussion where the class really bonds and talks through topics. Definitely a good class, but mostly because of the teacher!
