I thought this course was alright. You spend most of the semester considering different ways to analyze social innovation projects to see if they are effective or ineffective ways to solve certain social issues. You learn a lot about randomized control trials, internal/external validity, establishing causal relationships, etc. I thought some of the material was pretty dry, but we got to look at some really cool social innovations and FaceTime different leaders in the social innovation world which was pretty cool. A big part of your grade is a group project where you analyze the effectiveness of a specific social innovation based on the evidence that exists on that innovation currently. You write 3 memos, which were graded a little more harshly than expected, and create a final presentation and video on your innovation. There is also a midterm and a final exam, both of which were pretty easy. Daphna and Katharine are great teachers and really want you to succeed in the course, so I would definitely recommend going to see them in office hours if you have any issues or if you just want to talk! Overall, I would recommend this course if you are interested in working in social innovation in the future!
