Professor Little is really approachable and an all around nice guy. You can tell he really cares about the material and pours his heart into his work. The movies chosen are really interesting and enjoyable to watch. However, this is not a class in which grades will reflect what you have learned. He is a really harsh grader and no matter how long you spend writing your posts and paper you can still get a pretty poor grade. I recommend reaching out to the Professor to demonstrate that you are trying and delving into the material. I've learned a lot, but its not shown in my grades.

Quite possibly one of the worst professors you can have while at UVA. He is very subjective in evaluating your performance. What is more frustrating is that he puts more emphasis on the political rather than the artistic value of the set films. Unless you're very bold, do not speak against his views and instead conform to his explicit agenda. In any case, there is an excellent selection of films but sadly Little will make an otherwise promising course into a nightmare.

The course covers 1 movie a week, watched outside of class and discussed in class. Professor Little is incredible: he weaves each film with overall themes across Gangster Film. The readings are relevant, though not always within the realm of film. Favorite class at UVA
