This is a NAUI Open Water Certification course. It has a $450 course fee, not including the cost of mask/snorkel/fins. It's somewhat expensive, but the price is pretty standard. Each class is at the North Grounds Rec Center and is split into a classroom session where you learn about the basic principles of diving and a pool session where you put those principles in practice. There's also one open water weekend where you do 4 total dives in a quarry (not actually required to pass the course for UVA, but required for your certification). There's a midterm and final exam which you should probably study for -- the midterm was harder than most of the class was expecting. Lynn is a really nice instructor and very knowledgeable, but can be a bit dry sometimes. Overall, I really liked this course; diving is super cool, and the certification doesn't expire.
