This is to date the best class I've taken here at UVA---Bella is super helpful and knowledgeable, and my writing skill/stamina definitely improved a lot. Workshop might sound scary, but everyone is really nice about critiquing and you arguably get to know your classmates better than in any other class through reading their stories. Non-workshop days involve reading short stories and talking about them in class, so workload isn't bad at all. If you're even a little bit interested in fiction writing or want to meet some really creative, like-minded people then I'd definitely recommend this class!

I LOVED this class and would absolutely recommend it to anyone who has ever had a love for creative writing in any way. It really pushed me to my creative boundaries and it was the first time I actually finished a story, albeit one of 5-10 pages. Workshop seems quite scary at first, but it's really lovely to get feedback from everyone and listen to what they all think of your work, because people tend to be very kind while being really helpful. The best part of this course was definitely the professor, who is the kindest and loveliest soul who brought such a positive energy to each class and is also just a very funny person. While the readings could be quite a lot (we usually had around 3 different stories per class), many of them were interesting and you will probably find a style that you enjoy/will be inspired by somewhere in there. It was just a great place to foster my writing skills, and I really loved the environment and prof. #tCFS24
