I am an art minor and I highly recommend taking this class with a different professor. Shelton does not "believe in" giving out A's to more than 10% of his class and this automatically put less experienced artists at a disadvantage. Also he does not give you time during the 2.5 hr class to work on your projects--which I feel has been very conducive and helpful in my other art classes. His projects are based on extremely strict guidelines which you will cause you to get penalized if you don't follow them. I feel like this was not a beneficial class I have taken in the art department and I think it has steered many students away from continuing to take art classes.

This art class focuses on graphite only. Matt has a very dry sense of humor and can be intimidating at first but is a great professor once you get to know him. This class took more time than any of my other classes so be prepared to spend at least 3 hours per day on projects. Definitely participate in class, it counts as much as a project grade.
This class is so time consuming. I personally did not enjoy it. That being said, the professor teaches this same course at VCU (very good art program) so if you want an intensive art course then by all means take this. If you are looking to get an arts credit or just enjoy drawing, do not.
Great class. Might be more work depending on how fast you draw, but overall really great. Learned a lot. Plus, there was a nude model for gesture studies.
