Some of the readings were boring and I feel that this class had a lot more work than other ENWR 1510 (we had 3 long academic papers, almost biweekly reading reflections, long readings, and lots of group discussion). Also, Chakrabarti was sometimes unclear with her expectations for assignments, and though she held office hours, they were not very helpful. She is nice and not a harsh grader, but isn't the most helpful. Overall, not a bad class and it's possible to do well, but there are better ENWRs out there.
The topic was interesting, but the class wasn't so interesting. The discussions were very dry and not the best. It seemed quite forced and one-sided at times even when the teacher wanted to talk less.
There were 3 essays and the prompts for those essays were quite vague at times. The teacher graded nicely on the essays and tried to give tips for improving our writing.
The readings were interesting sometimes, just too long/too much. We had to do 4 hours of reading/watching weekly and it took a lot of time for discussions which didn't seem to be going anywhere.
There are better ENWR 1510 sections out there and I wouldn't recommend this class unless you can find a way to participate in dry discussions and can handle the readings with vague essay prompts. #tCFfall22
This class was PAINFULLY boring. Ankita is a nice human being, but she needs to change the way she leads this class to make it actually enjoyable. The one thing I liked about this class was that she had us explore a variety of literature, ranging from short stories to TV show episodes. However, I wish she extended the time frame for the readings as some of them were unreasonably long for her to expect us to finish within 48 hours. I found myself speed running them to get it done before class, so I was not able to make valuable contributions to the discussions sometimes (and I noticed that in my peers as well). As a result, the discussions were EXTREMELY dry to the point where she sometimes had to pressure us to contribute.
The assignments consist of three essays that are not graded harshly as long as you answer the prompt in some way. The other factor that goes into your grade is participation and the expectations for that is something that she does not make very clear. Overall, while the topic of the class (Narratives of Magic and Fantasy) sounds interesting, it wasn't executed very well. #tCFfall22
