I absolutely loved this class. The semester she taught me the topic was modern fairytales. She was so so nice and really valued your opinion and made you think deeply about things you would not have previously. Do not pick an enwr you do not believe you would enjoy because then you would be miserable. In enwrs you are credited for participation and there is no pressure from ireland to give a 'right' answer. she is so kind and energetic and really cares about your opinion. 10/10 would recommend. GREAT teacher
Casey gives good comments on your essays when you're there, but then tends to change her mind as she's grading about whether she likes your premise. Sometimes, the in-class discussions would center on the same exact topic for the entire class (ex. why there is no 'the' in the title of 'Heart of Darkness'). This course was done in London as a part of the inaugural London First program, and it was great in many respects. The field trips arranged by Levenson were great. However, Casey's expectations for what we would do in the course could be confusing.
Casey Ireland provided an engaging class experience that was almost completely discussion based with a few essay workshops sprinkled in. She expects everybody to speak and partake in the conversations. My class's topic was writing about food, therefore our material was pretty interesting. Do not be surprised if she grades your papers harshly. However, if you make use of the revision opportunity and put in effort, she will acknowledge it. Her regrades are normally pretty generous.
