DO NOT TAKE ENWR WITH REBECCA LEVY. She is the WOAT. I am a student athlete and even on the first day of class I could tell that she was biased against student athletes thinking I wouldn't want to work hard in her class. I am Pre-Med and a very hard worker, yet she already had this stereotypical idea in her head. I participated in class and always did my postings on Tuesdays, and she reassured me that I had nothing to worry about in those two areas. Yet, she ended up giving me a B+ in both areas which was very angering. On my first essay, I received a B+ which was reasonable for the amount of effort I put in. For the next essay, I met with her twice to go over my essay before handing it in, but I received a B+ again. On the next one, I met with her 3 times and she told me my essay was well written but she, again, gave me a B+. On her comments, she said I had issues in places that she previously said were well written and did not need editing. lThe whole point of an ENWR course is to show improvement over the course of the semester. However, "Becca" thinks that you need to participate 100 times every class and write the most perfect paper in order to get an A. My advice is to find an ENWR class that really just looks for improvement over the course of the semester. Most of my teammates could just show up and do their work in order to get an A. For a required class, she should not have been so harsh. Plus, she only likes to hear herself talk.
Rebecca Levy "Becca" did not have our best interest at hand. She required not one but two every THICK course readers for this class. That would have been totally fine if the readings were not as boring as they were. She would go on and on during class and did not give anyone else a chance to speak. She was also not helpful because she would not have our papers graded for months so we had no feedback to look at when writing our next paper - resulting in her giving us the same grade again. I went to her office hours multiple times and she gave me feedback but then took off points when I incorporated it into my paper. There was just no winning with her and a very boring course. I know ENWR is required but do yourself a favor and take it with anyone else.
I LOVED this class and the professor. It's a really manageable class and is actually very interesting. There are readings due for every class and for one of the days you have to write a brief comment about what you read. Class time is dedicated to interesting, in-depth discussions about the readings. Becca is really accepting of all ideas and makes everyone feel comfortable. There are 4 essays throughout the semester that get gradually longer. She gives you 2 full weeks to write the essays, which is plenty of time. You also get to choose your topic, which makes it more manageable. You have to prepare a final portfolio at the end of the semester, which seems like a lot of writing, but it really isn't that bad, and she gives you plenty of time to complete it. You also have to do a chill 5 minute presentation. I hate presenting, but this presentation was not bad at all. As a financial tip, some of the required readings from the bookstore you can get from the library. You can also order it off amazon the week before and then return it. I really enjoyed this class. It's a required class, so definitely try to take it with Becca!!
