I can honestly say Jesse Bordwin is the most fun ENWR Professor I could've gotten. The ENWR of Writing about Musicals engaged all students even if some didn't know what class they signed up for. There is great discussion of the plays that we read, the soundtracks we listen to, and the movies we watch. Professor Bordwin tries his best to constantly engage his students in discussion. My class especially had an amazing time and were able to leave the class with better writing abilities, new friends, and a new understanding of musicals through scripture, lyrics, and film analysis.

Though writing about musicals was an intriguing topic, Jesse did not teach important topics until after we needed to use them. We had very few assignments, and he didn't post a single grade in Collab so it was impossible to get a feel for how you were doing in the course. We did not get any feedback on our presentations (there were multiple, so we couldn't improve for the second one) and he was difficult to read when I went to office hours. Jesse expected us to know the material before he taught it, and took points off if we didn't. There is a ton of reading to be done during the first half of the semester, and one class per week during the second half is between half an hour to an hour longer than it's supposed to be because we have to watch movies and aren't allowed to watch them on our own time. This style of class was very inconvenient at times! Jesse is very vague with many things, including email responses and instructions. I would not take him again regardless of the topic.

Jesse is awesome! However, this course is probably the hardest ENWR. If you're looking for a GPA booster, this is not the class to take. But I can honestly say that Jesse has taught me so much, so if you're looking to actually learn a thing or two and drastically improve your writing, this is the class to take!
