Professor Zimmerman is engaging and interesting when covering course material like readings and assignments. Generally he assigned two readings of about 15-20 pages per week, though he was often flexible. On occasion readings were instead videos, which I found easier to take notes on. The class topic of how the world became modern was interesting, though sometimes the readings (mostly either from historians or philosophers) could get dense or straight-up incomprehensible. Understanding every word of every reading is not, however, required to do well in the class. Professor Zimmerman required us to revise all of our assignments (six 300-word "forum responses" due every other week, and three 1500+ word longer essays including the final essay) to get better grades; though this could be a lot of work, he gave very clear feedback on first drafts and following his guidance was easy. Professor Zimmerman was also available for further clarification when needed. The forum responses were fairly confined, but the three longer essays were up to you for topics, so I was able to pick subjects I was really interested in to write about.

TL;DR: a good ENWR 1510 option with a good professor and interesting but not inaccessible content. Make the writing assignments work for you with revisions and topics you want to write about, and you'll do well.

I didn't find the material of this class very interesting, but Zimmerman is pretty engaging and encourages you to think. He'll really challenge you sometimes but don't be afraid to speak in class. He's a very nice professor and very willing to help during office hours, and he'll tell you exactly how to fix your papers to get the grade you want. Overall, I think this class helped me be a better writer but our paper prompts felt pretty redundant.
