Initially I was scared to take this class because the topic, citizenship, is not one I knew much about, but it was the only class that fit my schedule. Going over the syllabus the first week, it seemed like a ton of work and was really overwhelming. Grades are based off a few discussion posts/responses, and then 3 big projects (op-ed, research paper, and interview/podcast). The op-ed was super difficult and you also have to get peer comments from the whole class while you're sitting there. Prof Baban also puts her own comments on your paper, and she sorta destroyed my writing lol but her insight is really helpful. After basically rewriting the entire thing, I got a decent grade and was proud of the finished product. Op-ed is 4-6 pages and research paper is 5-7, so as long as you pick topics that you are interested in and can find enough sources about, the class is ok. Prof Baban makes herself really accessible for office hours, but I do sorta get the vibe that she doesn't care much about teaching and judges a lot of what people say :( I would recommend you find a creative writing or fiction class that is more fun even if it's more writing, because your assignments definitely would not be as difficult as this class.
