This is a really good course for writing. It really focuses on improving your writing through discussions, short papers from readings, and essays. It is not overwhelming or too challenging, but is not easy at the same time. Professor Chantell is great. She is really nice, gives great feedback, and is more than willing to help with whatever you need. Definitely recommend this class.

Professor Chantell was the best professor I had my first semester. It was nice to have a professor that I could go to for help with the material or just UVA questions in general. We had small assignments such as read a chapter (which was at most 10 pages or so) and write an one page, double-spaced, summary of the chapter. I believe we only had 3 "big" papers. The first one, only had to be 3-4 pages long (double-spaced). The second assignment was 5-6 pages long. And our final assignment was to write a letter(2 pages single-spaced) to one of the authors of the articles we read at the beginning of the semester. Professor Chantell goes above and beyond for her students. Overall, this course was informative yet, easy enough for me to have a breather between my harder courses. AND THERE'S NO FINAL!

Prof Chantell is amazing, she is literally the sweetest person ever. If you need help she is always there to help you and always gives timely feedback.

Claire Chantell is the best professor at this university. She is a very nice lady and gives great feedback on papers so you know how to improve your writing skills for your next assignment.
