Professor Maus is witty, fun and engaging. Shakespeare was far more interesting with her insights and odd little jokes. It also doesn't hurt that she's actually a contributor to the Norton edition used in class. If you have the chance take this course. Three papers and a final, the best teacher for learning Shakespeare, hands down.
Absolutely loved her! She's very passionate about Shakespeare and clearly knows a lot- her lectures made me think about the plays in ways that I hadn't before. I liked the selection for the first semester and definitely enjoyed the comedies that we ended up reading! It's not a lot of work (3 papers and a final) and you go through a play every 10 days or so.
Prof Maus is an incredible lecturer! I definitely recommend this class, regardless of year/major. Even if you haven't read the plays before class, she makes it interesting - and makes you want to read them. Also, she's really nice and very accessible. I went and talked to her a few times, but only once specifically about the play we were reading. Typically, she tries to organize a class trip to Staunton to see a performance, which is always a lot of fun. We covered 3 histories and 5 comedies. Three papers and a final - nothing unordinary. The only negative was we never found out what the weights were on the four grades + participation.
