Totally agree with the most recent review (also from Fall 2015). Professor Booth was fab and the class was very manageable if you kept up with the reading and were willing to participate in class discussion. Also, she's pretty flexible with essay deadlines if you approach her in advance and let her know you need an extension, which is lovely!

I had a really great time taking this class! I don't think there were any readings which I didn't enjoy reading and I loved the selection of books we got to read (especially the Gothic anthology!). Professor Booth structures the class in a way where it's mostly discussion based and your grade is made up of two papers (5 page, up to you what you write about), a glossary, a final, and class participation. She's also really nice and organizes a movie showing at the end. Definitely not a lot of work if you keep up with the readings (most of the readings are short stories and you only read a couple of full-length books, none of which exceed ~250 pages) and Professor Booth is really nice and helpful at office hours!

Prof. Booth can be a tiny bit abrasive sometimes (mostly when you get on her nerves), but she's a nice lady. I don't feel all that more enlightened after taking the class, but I enjoyed the readings, and it's a relatively low-stress class. Don't take it if you don't enjoy class discussions.
