I love John Parker so much. He is a phenomenal lecturer and made the class so enjoyable. The class is a fairly normal english class, with a few papers, a midterm and a final (passage IDs and essays), and discussion. Just write down the page number of all the quotes he talks about in class and study those for the exams and you'll be golden on passage ID's. Make sure to get a good TA as well as obviously the TA grades the papers.

Best professor I've had at UVA. Professor Parker doesn't use power points of notes, he lectures from his own memory and he is fantastic. I recommend this course for everyone even if you aren't an English major. The tests are not bad- passage IDs and essays, as long as you attend lecture regularly and have a general concept of the readings you will do just fine. Highly recommend John Parker!!!

absolutely the best professor I've ever had.

John Parker is the best. He doesn't rely on slides or pre-written lectures and just talks to the class about what he's most excited about in the work. It's a lot of reading but if you're taking it for the English major requirement you probably will enjoy the readings anyways.

LOVE Professor Parker. He is engaging and makes the material very interesting, although he likes to sexualize everything. Only thing that I would say is that the papers are graded pretty hard so it is difficult to get an A even if you do well on the midterm and final. The midterm and final are super low stress and easy though. 10/10 would recommend
