McDowell is a great professor- she is always willing to help you outside of class (especially if you show interest). Like others have said, she know the material very well and loves to impart that knowledge onto her students. Very engaging discussions, too.

Professor McDowell is VERY knowledgeable, but she does tend to talk for most of the class. That being said you do learn a lot and she isn't that bad of a grader.

The professor is very engaging. You will definately enjoy lectures. I will say there is a good deal of reading to be completed each week for this class.

McDowell is a good teacher, but more often than not she lectured for the full hour and fifteen minutes of class. This made it so that you barely had to do any reading, as she would talk about the material the entire time. She would then point out specific pages in the text, and open it up to discussion with the class. There was no midterm and no tests, as the class focused almost primarily on writing. Needless to say, I read 3 of probably 12 novels and did very well.
