The instructor for this class during my year was HeeJin Lee. This class consisted of attendance and participation (20%), readings, weekly reflections (20%), and two essays (mid-term (25%) and final (35%)). Obviously, since it's a literature class, there were lots of readings (10 novels/short stories). If you aren't vigilant and cannot keep up with heavy readings, I would not recommend taking this class. You will have to read about 100-150 pages of reading per class. Some of the readings were incredibly interesting, but some were hard to comprehend. The class is really based around short lectures and class discussion, so if you want to earn participation points you need to have read the books. The professor is knowledgeable and has a clear flow for the class. If you pay attention in class and read the books, the essays are not hard to write at all (~1200 words). Overall, this class was incredibly interesting though, and I would take it again if I could.
