This, to me, was a very strange class. Opere is really great and really fun, but he expects you to connect completely unrelated things. His connections go something like this: there's a red rose in the poem, and red is the color of a fire truck, and firefighters rescue kittens out of trees, and trees give shade, and shade is darkness, and darkness is evil, so the red rose represents evil. These are the connections you're expected to make. That being said, Opere is a great guy and wasn't too harsh of a grader. I would only really recommend this class if you're into poetry, though.

Professor Opere is a super interesting guy and awesome professor. He is a poet and he really forces you to examine the texts. The class is very interactive so you definitely have to participate to do well and there are a few 3-5 page essays but it's a great class that really develops your poetry analytical skills.

So, I don't like poetry and perhaps that is why I did NOT enjoy this class at all, BUT this class is soo much effing work...so pretty much you have to write 4 papers (each 5 pages), plus a 15 minute presentation about a poem (which you have to recite by memory), a translation work AND a final exam. I'm sorry but a Spanish class should not be this hard!!
