The material was super interesting and Professor Skubby's discussion questions were thought provoking. The final paper was hard to write but I was very proud of it in the end. I also appreciated how we didn't get quizzes or any of that middle school mumbo jumbo. Yet the class had an absurd amount of readings and required papers. Even if I did well on a lot of the assignments, I ended up with a lower grade than I expected because his grading standards are off the charts insane! There was a point when he asked what we thought an average student's participation grade would be and someone mentioned it should be in the B range, while he proposed it should be in the C range. I understand that it was a 4000 level class but his expectations were ridiculous, and his grading scale was pretty unforgiving. If you can be an active participant in the discussions, skim like there's no tomorrow, write banging essays, and have some courage to present a powerpoint to a small seminar, then take the class. If not, you're probably better off finding a different 4000 level sociology class to take.
