This class is great for anyone interested in the medical field. Childress pioneered this subject, the theology and ethics of medicine, and his lectures are interesting and well outlined in a study guide.

Great class. Childress' lectures can be a little boring, as his voice inflection can put some to sleep. However, if you are interested in contemporary science and the relgious views behind it, then take it!

Great intro to various ethical questions in health care. Prof Childress is one of the foremost figures in this field, so he knows all about current issues- wrote the textbook himself. Lectures can be quite dry- he basically follows a pre-printed outline, so people often skipped. Tends to be a fair amount of reading, so it's pretty easy to fall behind- just don't leave it all until exam time- cramming is NOT fun

Lectures could be extremely boring, but the videos and readings were really actually very interesting. The midterm and final were pretty specific, but he gives you a comprehensive review sheet for both so you know what to focus on. Overall, good class.

This was an amazing class and I would recommend it to anyone who's interested in the subject or even curious about ethics and its relationship to medicine and religion.

Great class, very interesting topic. Unfortunetly one of those classes where a TA hurt my opinion of the class.

This is an interesting class, especially if you complete all of the readings; however, some of the readings can be somewhat heavy at times. Childress is very easy to approach during office hours. Discussions with Josuf was ok; he had some decent questions but was not that great of a facilitater--it was like he could run the discussion without us being there. 20% of your grade is based on your discussion section (including 3 2-page papers), so attendance is necessary.

This class had the potential to be really interesting, but it fell a little short. The reading in the textbook is basically a more painful reiteration of the lectures, and the lectures don't cover the assigned articles in the packet at all. Most of the grade in the class is based on understanding (or rote memorization) of the articles read. Reading, although certainly interesting, can be a bit heavy at times. Childress is a pretty good lecturer, though, so attending class isn't bad--though it may have little bearing on your grade. Discussion section proved to be the most valuable part of the class. Steve is a great TA: a nice guy who really knows his stuff.
