A really great class. Tons of reading so make sure you keep up with it. There really wasn't a good reason to go to lectures- I found them quite boring. However, this is a great course. Recommended for all pre-med students, nursing, and anyone who wants to work in the health care field.

Great class! The text can be dry and tough to read, but you don't really need it--Childress presents everything you need to know in his lectures.
The lectures are pretty dry but the content is interesting. Childress shows a video every week in place of lecture. I found the most enjoyable aspect of the course to be the discussions.
Interesting class. Sucks that the midterm and the final are your entire grade, pretty much, but they aren't that hard. Discussion not that helpful (as most discussions are)
Really worthwhile class. The professor's voice is kind of soft, so sometimes lectures weren't as engaging as they could have been....but he's very easy to talk to and very knowledgable. the material and readings were also very interesting.
really loved the class, did a lot for my perspectives. there is a lot of reading, but it is bearable and enjoyable
Such interesting material - great way to determine own views on such controversial medical topics. Tests were fair and discussion sections were stimulating.
Childress is clearly at the top of the field of bioethics. He literally wrote the textbook. Lectures are sometimes interesting, particularly if you are genuinely interested in that particular topic, but they are often less than gripping. Fridays are almost always optional movie days, and you can study for the midterm pretty much exclusively from the book and the booklet of readings. Try to get Scott Bailey as a TA -- he has a really insightful perspective and leads a good discussion.
Take this class! It's my favorite so far. Keep up with the readings- it's a lot of material to cover, but its interesting. The topic of Ethics is something you can take with you. Howard Pickett is awesome!
Prof. Childress' lectures seemed scattered. Maybe I'm just not an ethics lover though so it may be different depending on your interesting in religious bioethics. If anything, it helps to build a basic understanding of concepts and terminology associated with ethics in medical care.
